I'm Ash. Last year I went looking for a tie-dye golf polo and came up empty. I assumed golf and tie-dye would've crossed paths long ago, but they didn't. So I explored making my own.

That should've been the whole story. Instead it turned into a rabbit hole. Turns out tie-dye isn't a hippie fashion invention - it's been around for thousands of years, all over the world. Japan has shibori. India has bandhani, born in the state of Gujarat (my ancestral motherland). Different continents, different centuries, same basic idea: take fabric, twist it into something unexpected, apply dye, see what happens. Most people wearing tie-dye probably have no idea they're wearing history. I didn't.

The deeper I got, the more inspired I became. These weren't just patterns - they were centuries of technique and meaning, passed down long before "tie-dye" was a word anyone used. I started with the classic counterculture-psychedelic patterns most of us picture when we hear "tie-dye," then kept going once I realized how much more was out there - shibori, bandhani, and beyond. Turning all of it into designs worth putting on a golf shirt became a complex AI-powered project - one that's taught me more than I ever imagined going in. I'll be documenting this on the blog.
